Job Description
Are you concerned by transport’s climate impact and Europe’s dangerous reliance on fossil fuels? As volatile energy prices and Middle East conflicts expose the fragility of our supply chains, the shift to resilient, clean energy has never been more urgent. Transport & Environment (T&E) - the organization that exposed Dieselgate, secured the EU’s world-leading CO2 standards, and campaigned successfully to end dirty palm oil biofuels - is looking for a talented and dynamic analyst to help drive this transition.
Amid the challenges of decarbonising transport and reducing exposure to geopolitical shocks, this role is central to providing the analytical evidence needed to assess fuel pathways, including biofuels, hydrogen-based fuels, and electrification. The position entails quantifying environmental risks within complex supply chains and modelling the impacts of European fuel policies to ensure a sustainable transition.
This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career professional with strong quantitative skills to join our Trends & Analysis team and help shape resilient, affordable and climate-aligned policies that strengthen energy security and accelerate the shift toward truly sustainable energy sources.
Who are we looking for?
The position requires a person with strong analytical and research skills, as well as a willingness to learn. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to carry out technical analyses related to transport energy carriers using Excel or Python-based models, and to translate complex data into clear and impactful policy messages. Additionally, we need someone who can work autonomously and who takes initiative while having good interpersonal communication skills that are compatible with working across different teams.
Main functions of the role:
Being a key part of both the Trends & Analysis and Energy & Climate teams, focusing on T&E’s analytical work on transport energy, including biofuels, hydrogen-based fuels, electricity and other energy carriers. In this position you’ll be acting as one of T&E’s key energy experts.
Analyzing and dissecting data as well as complex policy issues from a variety of sources including scientific studies, reports and models being used to shape EU policy, including the Renewable Energy Directive, and using these to develop a detailed understanding of the issues from an environmental, economic and societal perspective.
Developing briefings and input for advocacy and campaign materials, based on robust data, evidence and argumentation in order to reduce the climate impact of the transport sector.
Support the organization with ad hoc requests and fast technical responses for both internal and for third party stakeholders, such as policymakers and journalists.
Converting large data sets or complex policy implications into clear, robust and beautiful charts.
Job requirements
Relevant studies or 1-3 years of experience working on technical issues in the environmental or energy sectors. This position is open to talented entry level candidates and to those with several years experience. Job title and salary will reflect previous experience.
Expertise in and knowledge of energy systems, including biofuels, hydrogen-based fuels or electricity, as well as energy and fuel markets.
Have strong analytical skills, an ability to quickly grasp technical issues, assess data, and good knowledge of Excel. Python programming would be an advantage.
Project management experience including strong interpersonal and team-working skills and an ability to deliver to tight deadlines.
Excellent communication and presentation skills as well as an ability to write in English fluently, accurately and concisely. Other European languages are considered a bonus
The confidence to think and act with initiative, to engage and influence policymakers, industry representatives and other stakeholders at the highest level.
A strong commitment to environmental protection, climate action and T&E’s mission to clean up transport.
Practicalities
This position is advertised as a full-time position based in Brussels on a one year contract with the possibility to extend it to a permanent contract. While we offer a flexible working environment, there is an expectation of at least two days per week spent in the office.
The start date would be as soon as possible. Deadline for application: 17 May 2026, at midnight.
