Job description

Senior Data Analyst (Researcher) - Batteries and Industrial Policy, EU

Deadline for applications: 31 October 2025.

Transport & Environment (T&E), the leading European NGO promoting cleaner transport, is offering a position for an experienced data analyst, starting from December 2025. The successful candidate will be ideally located in our main office in Brussels or in our Berlin office. The position can also be hosted in one of our national offices in Madrid or Warsaw. The role will primarily support T&E in boosting battery production in Europe and improving their environmental footprint and resilience through industrial policy. The role will be critical to T&E’s impact on several initiatives under the Clean Industrial Deal focusing on batteries and their value chain (e.g. the EU Battery Booster).

The successful candidate will join T&E’s Trends and Analysis team, our home for research, transport modelling and data analysis. Project work will primarily be directed by T&E’s Raw Materials team, where work will be driven by the opportunities to shape and set transport and industrial policy. Opportunities to contribute to other work programs may arise based on capacity and interest.

T&E prides itself on developing data and evidence-based transport policy for the EU. Your work could have a significant and lasting impact as we work with policy makers, advisory bodies and a coalition of civil society across the EU. Transport is the largest emitting sector in the EU - your work will help us to make sure transport plays its part in getting to net zero.

Our working environment fosters learning and professional development. We value ideas and afford our colleagues the agency and autonomy to develop evidence and argument-based solutions to our complex transport decarbonization challenges. We work on issues that can have a positive impact on the way we travel, on our health and on the climate.

We are looking for someone who can apply appropriate quantitative analytical tools and techniques, and synthesize evidence from a range of sources, to help our mission in creating a sustainable transport system. This will include assessing the reliability and relevance of evidence and giving objective evidence-based advice to shape policy and to help shape the public narrative of transport issues.

Main functions of the role:

  • Take a leading role on T&E’s analytical and research work on battery supply chain industrial strategy.

  • Deliver modelling of European batteries cells and components, providing support on wider industrial policy analysis (e.g. trade, investment, carbon footprint, resilience, etc.).

  • Write reports and policy briefings that detail impacts of policy options on the EU battery industry and its value chains.

  • Present research findings internally and externally.

  • Support T&E’s analytical work in other work programs and national offices when additional capacity is required.

  • Review T&E analytical outputs to ensure a high degree of research, analysis, and argumentation. This includes quality-assuring models, challenging input data and assumptions and interpreting output data.

  • Provide input to T&E’s policy and communication strategies.

Job requirements

Job requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience working on European batteries and clean technologies (and their value chains) analysis and modelling, either in an industry, consulting or academic context.

  • Experience in data analysis with Excel. Additional coding in python or database management experience is considered a bonus. Any examples of integrating GenAI as part of data analysis is a bonus.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills and an ability to write in English fluently, accurately and concisely. Other European languages are considered a bonus.

  • Project management experience including strong interpersonal and team-working skills and an ability to deliver to tight deadlines.

  • The confidence to think and act with initiative, to engage and influence policymakers of different stripes, industry representatives and other stakeholders at the highest level.

Title and salary will be dependent on experience and skills, that will be assessed during the recruitment process.
