Job Description

You are eager to advocate for an EU funding landscape that supports clean technologies and stops financing polluting fossil fuels? Are you excited about EU-level advocacy and policy research? Are you proactive, a team player and open to learn and contribute?

Transport & Environment (T&E), Europe's leading clean transport think tank and campaign group, is looking to strengthen its Sustainable Investments and Batteries team, with a particular focus on public investments.

Policy area

As T&E’s public investment policy intern, you will support our work in influencing EU-level investment policies and funding instruments towards transport decarbonization and the development of the EU's cleantech ecosystem. This entails the EU long-term budget (MFF), EU-level financing instruments (InvestEU, European Competitiveness Fund, etc) and related policies such as state aid, with special attention to transport decarbonization.

Your tasks

• Organization of creative, attention-raising events and preparation of complementary communication material to support advocacy.

• Research and analysis, both at the request of the team and for longer-term projects on the themes mentioned above.

• Monitoring of positions of key stakeholders, including member states, and Members of the European Parliament, as well as wider market and regulatory developments in the public finance space.

• Co-development and drafting of concise and informative policy recommendations.

• Attending meetings with stakeholders, reporting back to the team when relevant.

What we are looking for

• Understanding of the role of EU institutions and EU policymaking processes (no work experience in the ‘EU Bubble’ required).

• Strong level of English language skills (B2/C1).

• Strong motivation to learn about EU funding landscape & instruments, cleantech financing needs & industrial policy.

• Willingness to engage in all activities mentioned above (advocacy, research, communication, organization).

• Proactivity and sense of collaboration, openness to learn.

• Existing right to work in Belgium.

• Existing experience and knowledge (internships, volunteering, school or university projects) of themes and skills will be considered as a plus.

Practical information

The position is full-time, with a contract running one year from early/mid-September 2026 (with some flexibility regarding the starting date). The internship is paid according to the Belgian legal framework of “Convention d’Immersion Professionnelle”, remunerated with €1800 gross a month. T&E is an equal opportunities employer. This role will be based in Brussels in a hybrid work setting (both in the office and from home).
