Want to help clean up car manufacturing and shape the future of the automotive industry?

Transport & Environment (T&E), Europe’s leading clean transport think tank and campaign group, is looking for a passionate and strategic senior expert to drive the transition towards clean electric car manufacturing.

As Automotive Lead, you will drive forward T&E’s work on the global transformation of the automotive sector towards electric vehicles. This is a unique opportunity to lead T&E's work on automotive industry accountability, engage with key industry players and policy-makers, take part in high profile public activities, and push for systemic change in the automotive industry.

Key responsibilities:

  • Automotive transition accountability: Lead T&E’s work as the global automotive industry watchdog, tracking automaker EV readiness, strategies, and progress. Develop public facing reports and narratives.

  • Global strategic leadership: Expand T&E’s reach beyond the EU, assessing EV adoption trends and policies in China, the US, and emerging markets.

  • Strategic advisory: Provide guidance and briefings to the Brussels and national teams, ensuring T&E’s advocacy is rooted in deep industrial reality.

  • Project coordination: Coordinate projects on automotive transformation, working across teams, T&E members, and national experts.

  • Policy and advocacy: Shape EU policy by designing and executing advocacy strategies. Support the building and implementation of national strategies in key national markets, such as France, Germany, Spain, Italy, UK and Poland.

  • Narrative and public messaging: Craft compelling political narratives, engage in high-profile public activities, including media and political communications.

  • Stakeholder representation: Represent T&E in external engagements, building partnerships with EU policymakers, industry stakeholders, and NGOs.

The successful candidate should meet the following requirements:

Essential requirements:

  • At least 3-5 years of relevant experience in industry, or automotive policy.

  • Industry expertise: experience within the automotive industry, or a consultancy. Ideally working on automotive policies and has a good understanding of how policies affect the automotive industry.

  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills: ability to work with policymakers, industry experts, and NGOs.

  • Analytical & strategic thinking: ability to grasp complex issues and translate them into clear, actionable recommendations.

  • Project management skills: experience managing programs across multiple teams.

  • Excellent communication skills: able to break down technical content for different audiences and crafting clear, impactful messages for the media, policymakers, and the public.

  • Enjoys working in a team environment.

  • Enjoys scoping new projects.

Good to have:

  • Experience coordinating multi-stakeholder coalitions or projects.

  • Ability to develop and implement strategic policy positions.

The position will be primarily based in Brussels but would involve occasional travel.
