Transport & Environment (T&E), Europe’s leading clean transport think tank and campaign group, seeks a Communications and Engagement Officer to drive our UK initiatives in transport decarbonisation. About the Role:
As Communications and Engagement Officer, you will manage and implement impactful media and communications strategies to promote T&E’s UK priorities. The ideal candidate will have a successful record working with media, be a persuasive and creative writer and content developer, and have experience of developing social media content to increase visibility and stakeholder engagement. They should be an energetic team-player with experience working in a communications and campaign environment, driven by technical evidence and high level stakeholder engagement. Knowledge of climate, transport or energy issues would be a plus. Based in our London office with occasional travel to Brussels, you’ll report directly to the UK Director.
Key Responsibilities:
Media Relations: Develop and maintain strong relationships with key media contacts, pitch stories, and liaise with journalists for optimal placement of T&E’s materials including research and studies. Monitor the media for potential opportunities e.g. op-eds or new analysis to respond to a news story. Keep T&E’s UK press contact list current and relevant.
Support Campaign Projects: Contribute to the development and delivery of targeted campaign projects with a focus on audience engagement, media impact, and message alignment. Identify strategic content that furthers T&E’s strategic objectives. Identifying and pitching for speaking opportunities at events, podcasts, etc.
Communications Strategy: Co-lead and coordinate T&E UK’s communications strategy to align with organisational goals. Ensure consistency across communication activities, monitor key external developments and maximise impact from external opportunities.
Content Creation & Editorial Writing: Draft, review, and publish a range of content across traditional and social media, including blogs, press releases, Q&As, video scripts and background materials working closely with UK policy leads, publishing outputs on T&E’s channels.
Responsive Communication & Rapid Response: Collaborate with UK and EU teams to coordinate rapid-response communications around external events that align with T&E’s objectives, maximising public visibility and impact.
Strategic Advice & Best Practice: Advise policy teams on best practices to achieve effective and impactful communications. Provide strategic input on messaging and campaign launches, assisting with research and report dissemination.
Evaluation & Monitoring: Track and evaluate the success of media and communications activities. Collect insights and integrate lessons learned into future planning for continuous improvement.
Collaboration: Work closely with T&E’s communications, advocacy, and policy teams, as well as external stakeholders to coordinate media launches and campaigns. Build media and social media messaging packages for sharing with key external stakeholders.
External Agencies, Events, and Video Content: Manage external agencies to ensure deliverables are met within budget. Organise media briefings and events, and seek opportunities for video and visual content, collaborating with both internal teams and external partners.
Job requirements
Need to have:
A minimum of 3 years’ experience in media relations, communications, or campaign delivery, with knowledge of the UK media landscape.
Proven ability to develop creative campaign ideas, secure media coverage, and engage audiences across platforms.
Strong writing and editing skills, with an eye for creating engaging content.
Experience with social media management and building visibility online.
Effective team player and ability to work in a fast-paced environment with the ability to deliver work independently.
Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise in a dynamic setting.
Good to have:
Background in climate, transport, or energy issues.
Experience working in international teams or with external agencies.
Knowledge of the UK political landscape
Location: This role is based in T&E’s London office, with a minimum of two days per week onsite.
