Transport & Environment (T&E), Europe’s foremost clean transport think tank and campaign group, is on the lookout for an Sustainable Shipping Manager to champion our efforts to decarbonise the UK shipping sector. About the role:
You’ll play a key role in pushing UK regulations forward, championing sustainable and scalable options, such as green hydrogen and hydrogen based fuels while challenging false alternatives. With a strong evidence-based approach, T&E UK’s advocacy focuses on impactful measures to reduce transport emissions and achieve the UK’s carbon budgets. Based in our London office with occasional travel to Brussels, you’ll report directly to the UK Director and will work closely with T&E’s shipping and energy teams.
Key responsibilities:
Advocacy Strategy: Design and implement advocacy strategies targeting UK regulators, politicians, and media to promote national shipping decarbonisation, ensuring alignment with T&E’s strategic goals and working closely with other teams within T&E to ensure consistency across initiatives.
Policy Development & Research: Conduct and lead research, analyzing relevant technical, economic, and legal information related to vessel decarbonisation.
Stakeholder Engagement: Build and nurture relationships with UK policymakers, industry, NGOs, and other stakeholders, forming coalitions with key industry players.
Collaboration: Coordinate activities with environmental and civil society organizations, T&E members, and internal teams to drive forward T&E’s policy priorities.
Media and Public Engagement: Generate and respond to media interest in shipping decarbonisation, speaking at events, and representing T&E in public forums.
Job requirements
What We’re Looking For:
Six years’ experience in UK advocacy and engagement with regulatory stakeholders, with a proven track record in driving policy change, preferably in areas of transport, energy, climate.
A good understanding of the UK political system and policymaking, with capacity for political analysis and familiarity with regulations and the legislative process.
Strong project management skills, prioritization, and deadline management skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines and work effectively in a fast changing political environment
The confidence to think and act with initiative, to engage and influence policy-makers of different stripes, industry representatives and other stakeholders at the highest level
Proven ability to collaborate in a fast-paced, dynamic team environment
Excellent oral and written communication skills tailored to diverse audiences
Experience as a spokesperson or handling media requests
A positive, can-do attitude with high work autonomy levels
Location: This role is based in our London office, with a minimum of two days per week onsite.
