Job description
Transport & Environment (T&E), Europe's leading clean transport think tank and campaign group, is looking for a policy officer or a manager to work on our campaign for European policy measures for maritime transport, focusing on policy analysis and advocacy.
The EU adopted in 2023 world’s most ambitious fit-for-55 (FF55) package of climate measures on the shipping sector, which includes among others applying the polluter pays principle to maritime emissions. Consistent implementation and stringent enforcement of these measures will be the number one priority in the coming years. But even the FF55 package leaves behind a policy gap that needs to be filled in order to ensure that European shipping contributes its fair share to the achievement of the EU’s forthcoming new 2040 and already agreed 2050 climate objectives.
The policy lead will be expected to contribute to advocacy work at the EU, member state and other stakeholder levels in order to achieve the highest ambition during the 2024-2029 European legislative cycle.
The role will involve:
Lead the T&E’s clean shipping campaign at the EU level
Developing of position papers and advocacy & analytical materials
Establishing relationships with regulators, NGO representatives and industry stakeholders to expand T&E’s outreach in Europe;
Responding to and generating media interest in T&E priorities in European policy-making;
Attend the key policy meetings, speak and represent T&E’s advocacy work at industry, policy or NGOs events;
Support the Shipping team in their overall functioning.

We combine the power of robust, science-based evidence and a deep understanding of transport with powerful communications and impactful advocacy. Our staff in Brussels, Rome, Madrid, Paris, Berlin, Warsaw, and London collaborate with our 60 national member and supporter organisations. All together our members and supporters represent more than 3.5 million people.
