Job Description

This role would be ideal for someone with strong media and creative communications experience, who can successfully plan and execute communications campaigns, develop compelling narratives using data and research, and who can bring innovative ideas to elevate our policy communications. The ideal candidate will quickly grasp the key issues of transport decarbonization and the energy transition, and will be able to independently identify communications opportunities.

Above all, we’re looking for an entrepreneurial individual, able to spot opportunities and work with T&E teams to find the right channels and approaches to get our messages across. The successful candidate will be able to help shape the development of programmatic strategy and plans.


Your responsibilities:

  • Managing media relations with EU affairs media outlets, newswires and correspondents based in Brussels and European countries.

  • Pitching stories and interviews to print, broadcast and online media, as well as drafting press releases, op-eds and other media materials. Developing creative content and engagement ideas.

  • Identify and develop campaign, communications and outreach opportunities which capture the imagination of decision makers.

  • Collaborate closely with policy team members to develop research ideas on which to communicate and campaign.

  • Provide insight on story angles and media narratives to effectively lead policy communications. 

  • Identify external opportunities by monitoring media and policy discussions. Proactively identify stories and issues on which we may wish to engage, developing ideas and tools to maximize these opportunities.

  • Manage external agencies, and organize events, briefings and webinars with external stakeholders, including researchers, experts and NGOs.

  • Identify and deliver video and visual communications opportunities.


Ideal skills and experience:

  • Able to contribute strategically to delivering T&E’s advocacy, campaign, communications and policy goals.

  • Bring knowledge and experience to the role, ideally in transport, environmental and/or energy communications and campaigns work, but be willing to try new things, grow and share knowledge.

  • Experience in building relationships with a range of stakeholders internally and externally including remote staff.

  • Experience in project planning and implementation, managing campaigning tools and delivering actions e.g. digital tools, creative assets (video, advertising campaigns). 


Other information:

  • The position will occasionally involve travel to key EU capitals.

  • The successful candidate will be part of T&E’s communications team, and work in close collaboration with policy teams in Brussels and our EU national offices.

Practicalities

This position is advertised as a permanent, full-time position based in Brussels. While we offer a flexible working environment, there is an expectation that there are at least two days per week spent in the office.
