Clean fleets policy manager

  • Hybrid
    • Brussels, Brussels, Belgium
  • Electric fleets

Job description

How do we electrify company fleets in Europe faster? How do we avoid air pollution from company cars and delivery vehicles in our cities? T&E is looking for someone who can lead T&E’s advocacy campaign and coalition work on Europe’s first law to green corporate fleets across the continent

Are you up for the challenge to strengthen the belief that electric trucks are both already a reality today, as well as the industry’s future? That company car fleets should go much faster on electric and boost the sales of affordable used EVs for private buyers? Do you have an interest in policy with an understanding of EU decision making, a genuine passion for climate and energy issues, and a desire to learn about the logistics sector? Then this may be the job for you!

Company cars are 60% of all new cars in the EU but electrify slower than private households. The EU needs to take urgent action to finally change this and make companies green leaders instead of laggards! Big freight buyers move the majority of goods on EU roads and should lead the transition to electric trucks. The role of the policy manager would be to lead advocacy work on the upcoming Greening Corporate Fleets Law touching company cars, vans and trucks, and building powerful (industry) alliances to make them happen.

This role will involve:

  • Advocacy work with the European Parliament and 27 member states, focussing on key regulations such as the European Commission Greening Corporate Fleets Initiative and CountEU Emissions.

  • Coordinate and grow T&E’s relationship with large freight buyers  (e.g. Ikea, Unilever, etc.) through both bilateral relationship and alliance building, with the aim to lower the sector’s reliance on biofuels and push them towards goods delivery (vans and trucks), as well as to gather their support for new EU climate initiatives.

  • Identifying new incentives that would accelerate the demand side uptake of zero-emission trucks, in particular amongst major freight buyers such as big consumer product companies.

  • Co-design and coordinate T&E’s corporate pressure work such as our recent campaign targetting leasing companies

  • Identifying, commissioning and delivering impactful research tailored to the needs of the team’s EU policy campaigns, in collaboration with either our in-house data analysts or external consultancies (for example a piece ranking scope 3 emissions of major logistics companies).

  • Contributing to T&E’s strategy for zero-emission road freight and the identification of new policy streams we (including you) could work on.

  • Working independently within the electric fleets and road freight team, but in close coordination with team members and colleagues from other T&E teams.

  • Building and maintaining good contacts with policymakers, researchers and our network working in this field.

Job requirements

The successful candidate should meet the following criteria:

  • At least five years of total work experience, preferably with some relevant years in politics, the mobility, logistics, or energy sector.

  • At least three years of experience in advocacy work.

  • A good political feeling, negotiating skills, and ability to strategize on policy files.

  • The confidence to think and act with initiative, to engage and influence policy-makers of different stripes, industry representatives and other stakeholders at the highest level.

  • Experience with managing multi-stakeholder coalitions and spotting opportunities for collaboration. Industry coalition experience would be an asset.

  • The ability and motivation to learn technical, economic and legal information, to independently develop new political, economic or legal arguments and evidence and use them to convince key stakeholders.

  • Project management skills including strong interpersonal and team-working skills, organisational and coordination skills.

  • Good writing, communication and presentation skills.

  • A willingness to develop a network in the logistics sector.

  • Ability to deliver to tight deadlines; eager to learn, with a positive and optimistic attitude when faced with challenges.

The position is full-time and based in Brussels, with the possibility of flexible working hours. T&E will offer you a competitive salary in line with your experience and expertise. The position offers the opportunity to grow professionally and build a rewarding career at T&E.

Equally importantly, if you join T&E you’ll have the opportunity to devote your professional energy and creativity to the resolution of one of humankind’s greatest challenges.
