Campaign Manager, Clean Cities

  • Hybrid
    • London, England, United Kingdom
  • £47,000 - £55,000 per year
  • Clean Cities Campaign

Job description

Are you frustrated how polluting motor vehicles create health inequities and dominate our lives? Are you passionate about a just transition to zero emissions transport?

Are you excited about public transport, walking, cycling, micromobility and opportunities to green our cities? As well as solutions for goods to be delivered more sustainably? Do you agree we should prioritise and promote electric vehicles?

Clean Cities is catalysing transformational change to drive down transport emissions in Europe and we’re looking for a dynamic and experienced transport professional and/or environmental campaigner to join our UK team.

A primary focus of this role will be to plan, develop, implement and lead our new campaign to accelerate the uptake of pedal and electric powered freight in London. The successful applicant will be responsible for working collaboratively with other organisations and local partners to help realise the vision for this project and to deliver the campaign’s objectives.

About the Role:

As Campaign Manager, you will be expected to lead innovative campaigns and to inspire organisations to partner with us on our mission to build public support for cities to shift from polluting vehicles to active, shared and electric mobility.

You will need to be a quick thinker, with strong networking skills and an ability to get stuck into a policy debate without losing sight of your objectives. You will ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and most important of all, achieve impact. As well as your communication and advocacy skills, this role will test your ability to be strategic and to juggle different priorities.

The Campaign Manager reports to the UK Head of Campaigns.

Your tasks will include:

  • Leading campaigns from inception to delivery; taking day to day responsibility for project management, reporting, budget, procurement, stakeholder relations and benefits realisation

  • Identifying and executing a variety of tactics and tools to build public support, political pressure, and momentum for change in line with our campaign objectives

  • Being proactive at identifying campaign opportunities and scoping out projects that will achieve the goals of Clean Cities in the UK

  • Collaborating with Clean Cities colleagues and across T&E, as well as consultants, partners and allies to deliver on our objectives

  • Building and amplifying the Clean Cities network by fostering relationships and communicating skillfully with relevant policymakers, NGOs, unusual partners (e.g. parents associations) and other allies at a city level

  • Commissioning and/or undertaking in-house research and data analysis in support of our objectives

  • Speaking with the media and representing Clean Cities at meetings, conferences, and events

  • Writing and/or contributing to a variety of external communication materials, including blogs, articles, speeches, and social media posts, as well as funding proposals, in close collaboration with our communications team.

Job requirements

The successful candidate would ideally meet the following criteria:

  • A minimum of 5-7 years advocacy, campaigning or policy experience working in sustainable transport or climate, which is matched with an enthusiasm and passion that inspires others

  • Self-awareness, confidence and creativity with a willingness to try new approaches and innovate while keeping projects on track

  • A deep understanding of sustainable and electric mobility challenges and potential solutions in the UK, ideally in London

  • A good understanding of the political and environmental NGO/grassroots movement in the UK, ideally in London, with a network to draw down on

  • Native or near-native English skills. Strong public speaking and writing proficiency. Additional European languages are a plus.

  • Excellent communication and networking skills, including both written and interpersonal, with an ability to build strong relationships

  • A passion for working with a remote and diverse team across various geographies, and willingness to travel in the UK and elsewhere in Europe on occasion

  • Flexibility and being able to work in the evening when necessary (e.g. meetings with grassroots movements).

What do we offer:

This is a full-time two-year fixed term contract with the option to extend subject to funding. Salary range 47,000 GBP - 55,000 GBP (gross per year). A flexible working schedule can be discussed. You will be expected to work in our central London workspace two to three days a week.
